ParentChild+
A family-based literacy program, the focus of the ParentChild+ (PC+) is to empower and support parents in realizing their role as their child’s first and most important teacher. The program is based on the Early Start model from the United States and CFS of Western Manitoba’s program is unique in Canada.
With the help of trained Home Visitors and specially chosen books and toys, parent and child experience the joy and values of reading, talking and playing together. Over time, the parent-child attachment relationship is strengthened through this interaction. PC+ takes two years to complete for each family so it represents a major commitment from them and the Home Visitor.
PC+ has been operating for over 30 years through CFS of Western Manitoba’s Elspeth Reid Family Resource Centre. CFS of Western Manitoba is grateful to the financial support of private funds that help operate PC+.
