Position: Social Work Assistant (Brandon-based), Full-time term position until Friday, August 28, 2026

Child and Family Services of Western Manitoba is accepting applications for a full-time term Social Work Assistant to support Family Service Social Workers in strengthening family units through a variety of services, including direct in-home support, supporting therapeutic access, and providing parent education and mentoring. This is a term position to commence as soon as possible and conclude Friday, August 28, 2026. This term position may conclude sooner than August 28, 2026, subject to a minimum two week notice period. The successful applicant will work 36¼ hours per week, predominantly Monday to Friday. The successful applicant must have access to a vehicle for work use and hold a valid Manitoba Class 5 (5F) Driver’s License. Once completed the orientation period, the successful applicant will be provided a car allowance, which will be paid bi-weekly. This position is subject to a six-month probationary period. This position falls within a Collective Agreement ratified between the Agency and MGEU (Local 461), with wages determined by the SWA salary scale.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a University degree in a social science, or a one-year certificate or two-year diploma in a social service-related field from an accredited College in Canada (ex. two-year Social Service Worker diploma from Assiniboine Community College);
- Comprehensive written and oral communication skills in English;
- Written and oral communication skills in a language other than English is considered a definite asset (ex. fluent in English and Spanish);
- Strong organizational and time management skills;
- Ability to work independently, under the guidance of a Supervisor and/or Social Workers;
- Solid understanding of child development, parenting, and family functioning;
- Valid Manitoba Class 5F Driver’s License and the ability to use own vehicle for work use;
- Working knowledge, understanding and sensitivity for all cultures;

Additional Information:
- Successful completion of a Child Abuse Registry Check, Criminal Records Check (including vulnerable sector), Prior Contact Check, and a Driver’s Abstract Check is required. The successful candidate will be responsible for any services charges incurred for the Criminal Record Check; the Agency will pay for the other three security checks.
