Our Mission and Goals

Our Mission

Child and Family Services of Western Manitoba exists so that children are safe and nurtured in strong, loving families within a community of caring people.

Child and Family Services of Western Manitoba is the Designated Intake Agency (DIA) for our region. We provide 24-hour, seven-days a week intake response to concerns about the safety of children in our designated region.

Our Goals

  • Families are strengthened and supported
  • Children are protected from neglect, abuse, violence, and exploitation
  • Children in our care are nurtured and supported in ways that promote their well-being
  • Children and Families will benefit from the Agency working in partnership with the community
  • The health and wellbeing of children and families in Western Manitoba will continue to drive our Agency’s commitment to improve the services we deliver

We reach our goals by offering effective family strengthening programs and preventative resources to Westman communities with services that seek to support families and protect children.

Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation

As a child welfare agency, we acknowledge the deep and lasting impacts of colonization, residential schools, and the Sixties Scoop on Indigenous children, families, and communities. We recognize that these injustices continue to shape the realities of many of the children and families we serve.

We are committed to conducting our work in the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation. This means we:

  • Acknowledge the Truth: We commit to understanding the history and ongoing effects of systemic oppression on Indigenous Peoples and child welfare practices.
  • Build Respectful Relationships: We honour Indigenous voices, cultures, languages, and ways of knowing in our work and partnerships.
  • Uphold Responsibility: We strive to work in a way that promotes healing, equity, and meaningful change, guided by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.
  • Support Reconciliation in Practice: We continuously seek opportunities for learning, reflection, and action to support Indigenous self-determination and improve outcomes for Indigenous children and families.

All employees are expected to engage in this journey with openness, humility, and a commitment to equity and accountability in their everyday work.
